John O'Leary

Principal

John O’Leary is a Principal on the Investment team at CGC focusing on strategy and value creation and working across origination, transaction execution and portfolio management. John brings a decade and a half of leadership experience in clean energy infrastructure deployment and investment in both the public and private sectors.

Prior to joining CGC, John served as Deputy Secretary for Energy and Environment in the office of Governor Kathy Hochul. In this capacity, John was New York State’s senior public official for energy and the environment, leading a portfolio of 12 state agencies and authorities with over 10,000 staff and advancing more than $60 billion in clean energy infrastructure projects and programs.

John previously led market strategy for AlphaStruxure, a joint venture of The Carlyle Group and Schneider Electric where he was involved in originating and advancing a pipeline of more than $2 billion in distributed clean energy projects. Prior to that, John served as Senior Policy Advisor for Energy and Finance in the New York Governor’s Office where he helped drive the state’s Reforming the Energy Vision strategy for grid modernization and supported the establishment and growth of NY Green Bank. John is a graduate of The George Washington University and lives in the New York City area.
